Julie Siepen NoubissieI was referred to this firm through a friend with a high recommendation. I was impressed by their professionalism from the first meeting and throughout our encounter. They provide stellar service and follow up promptly on all communications. The fees are reasonable and most importantly they inspire trust. I wish I had benefited from their accounting advice and services for the past 20 years. If you are in downtown Montreal, this is the go to place for your accounting and tax services. If you live outside of downtown, it is still definitely worth making the trip!

Frequently Asked Questions
When are personal income taxes due?
Personal income taxes are calculated based on the previous calendar year. The deadline for submission is April 30, 2024, for personal tax returns and June 17, 2024, for self-employed individuals. We strongly advise our clients to have their tax returns prepared well in advance of the relative date. Late filing may incur interest charges on any taxes owing.
What is the difference between a deduction and a credit?
Deductions reduce how much you owe in taxes by decreasing your income, and therefore possibly lowering what tax bracket you are in. Credits are used after the amount you should owe in taxes is determined. These are then offset against your tax liability to reduce how much you owe in taxes.
Who counts as a self-employed individual?
A self-employed individual can be anyone from an influencer or Uber driver or Airbnb host to IT specialists, incorporated medical practitioners, lawyers, and sole proprietors. Click here for more information.
I am self-employed with no employees. Do I need to file a business tax return?
Yes. Even if you made $5,000 last year from your small business, you need to file. If your business is a sole proprietorship or partnership, you use the T1 income tax form, the same income tax return you use to file your personal income taxes. If your business is a corporation, you must file a T2 corporate income tax return. For more on the services we provide to small businesses, click here.
What are the minimum accounting requirements for small businesses?
A corporate tax return must be filed annually. If your business is registered in Québec, you must file a Québec tax return. GST/QST must be remitted if the business is registered for GST/QST. If the business has employees, source deductions must be reported and paid. For more on the services we provide to small businesses, click here.
If I’m a US citizen or green card holder living in Canada, do I need to file a tax return in the United States?
Yes. The IRS requires you to file taxes in the United States. We can help you with this.
I’m interested in using a tax software for my small business, but it seems complicated. Can you help?
Yes. We offer QuickBooks, Sage 50 (formerly Simply Accounting) and Acomba training and set-up to enable you to manage your own bookkeeping. Get in touch, and we can schedule a training session.
I am a small business owner. When do I start charging taxes?
Once you make $30,000 over twelve consecutive months, you need to register for a sales tax number and begin charging applicable taxes. We can help you register! Click here to discover more.
What is the GST/HST credit?
The GST/HST credit is a tax-free quarterly payment that helps individuals and families with low and modest incomes offset all or part of the GST or HST that they pay. To be eligible, you must be a resident of Canada and 19 years of age or older. You apply for the credit when you file your taxes, which we can help you with.
Do I need to report income earned in other countries?
Yes. You need to report world income on your Canadian tax return.
I haven’t filed my taxes in years. What do I do?
Don’t worry! We can help. There may be payment plans available to you, and depending on your situation, you might have unused credits. Take a deep breath and visit our page on backlog tax.
