2023 Tax Year Cheat Sheet
We understand better than anyone that tax season can feel like a confusing and intimidating time, but we’re here to make the process easy for you. Follow the steps of this cheat sheet and make an appointment with us if you have any questions along the way.
1. Deadlines. We lead busy lives, and deadlines sneak up fast. Keep an eye on the deadlines below:
February 29, 2024: RRSP Contribution
This is the deadline for you to make any RRSP contributions you wish to include in your 2023 tax return. If you would like advice on RRSPs, your contributions, and their effect on your tax liabilities, get in touch! We offer RRSP consults until March 1.
April 30, 2024: Personal Income Tax
This is the deadline for both paying your 2023 taxes as well as (unless you or your spouse is self-employed) filing your 2023 taxes.
June 17, 2024: Self-Employed Filing Deadline
If you or your spouse is self-employed, this is the deadline to submit your taxes. But don’t forget: if you are expecting to owe taxes this year, your payment is still due by the end of April. Bring us your tax materials as early as you can, so we can prepare calculations on time and avoid late penalties.
2. How to Get Started
Option one: Submit your tax documents online through our secure Ready to File system. You will be asked to fill out a brief questionnaire and attach all relevant documents and slips.
Option two: Our walk-in “clinic” is open from noon to 19:00, Monday through Friday, and it is open to everyone. No question is too small, no situation too complex. To get the most out of your experience, it’s a good idea to bring all the necessary tax documents with you. Not sure what to bring? Get in touch beforehand!
Option three: Can’t get into the office during the walk-in clinic hours? No problem. Call our hotline at 514-223-5992. All our messages are answered promptly. Or, you can send us an email: info@accotax.ca.
